Fully guided implantology with CEREC Guide 3: Fast, safe, and chairside

Dentsply Sirona is now launching a new surgical guide for the digital implant workflow. CEREC Guide 3 supports both the surgical preparation of the implant site as well as the insertion of all Dentsply Sirona implants. CEREC Guide 3 thus rounds off the chairside digital implant workflow and ensures that the prosthetic planning is implemented in a clinically safe way thanks to fully guided insertion.

Surgical guide in situ: For safe treatment and predictable results

CEREC Guide 3 is a surgical guide that can be produced in the practice easily, quickly and cost efficiently using the CEREC software 4.6.1 based on a digital impression made with the CEREC Omnicam and a 3D X-ray image. This allows fully guided surgery for Dentsply Sirona implants. CEREC Guide 3 is a further development of CEREC Guide 2, the surgical guide for preparing the implant site.

The major innovation in the CEREC Guide 3 workflow is that, after it is milled, sleeves are placed with a special adhesive (Calibra, Dentsply Sirona) – no additional drill key is needed! This enables the guided insertion of the implant through the surgical guide. The Original Guided Surgery Kits are available for this. The pre-assembled guide sleeves ensure the precise transfer of the implant planning to surgery. The integrated depth stop makes this process safer and more predictable. This applies to all Dentsply Sirona implant systems (Astra Tech Implant System EV, Xive, Ankylos).

The direct way: Mill it and use it for treatment

The production of this surgical guide continues to be part of the implant planning that is done in the Galileos Implant software. The soft tissue information and the pre-planned prosthetics are provided as a digital data set by CEREC. The scan and 3D X-ray images can then be superimposed in the software and used for planning the entire implant procedure including the surgical guide. The position of the guide sleeves of the bur with respect to the remaining teeth (or other support structures) is also defined. The dentist transfers the results of this planning stage back to CEREC. There, the surgical guide design can then be determined and adapted to the specific needs of the case and milled from a PMMA CEREC Guide Bloc on a CEREC milling unit.

"With CEREC Guide 3, Dentsply Sirona rounds off the chairside digital implant workflow, in which all individual products and steps are coordinated with one another," explains Dr. Alexander Völcker, Group Vice President CAD/CAM at Dentsply Sirona. "The surgical guide ensures a seamless, reliable and clinically safe workflow for all Dentsply Sirona implant systems."

Full control over the course of treatment

The surgical guide has several advantages for implantology. It allows the prosthetic implant planning to be transferred 1:1 to the patient's mouth. The guided surgery using a surgical guide also ensures more safety and improved precision compared with free-hand drilling, which has been proven in studies. CEREC Guide 3 ensures that the costs and effort for patient and dentist are manageable.

Of course, users of CEREC Guide 2, the previously available system for producing chairside surgical guides, can continue to use it. It can be used to mill surgical guides for preparing the implant site for implants of selected partners. If the dentist wishes to have the surgical guide produced in a lab, this is preferably done using the inLab MC XL or the inLab MC X5 milling and grinding unit.

Dentsply Sirona is the only manufacturer that has a fully integrated chairside digital implant workflow with optimally coordinated products and steps. This starts with digital impressions and leads to implant planning and guided insertion using CEREC Guide 3 to the prosthetic restoration made with CEREC.

"The most important thing for me in implant dentistry is predictability. With CEREC Guide 3 and the fully integrated and entirely validated digital implant workflow by Dentsply Sirona, I can be 100% sure to achieve the best possible results for my patients every single time,” says Dr. Carlos Repullo from Spain.

CEREC Guide 3 will be available starting in September and can be designed in the CEREC software version 4.6.1 or higher and produced in the MC X and MC XL milling units.
